Two More Sleeps ’til Turkey Day!

Hi Friends, I hope you’re all finished with your grocery shopping, and ready start cooking your Thanksgiving Feast! Hopefully you have lots of family and friends around to lend a helping hand, and you’re planning to eat a meal that will require stretchy pants.

We all have loads of fun and busy things happening this week, so I’m just posting a quick update today!

Gareth and I are in Scottsdale, AZ this week to spend Thanksgiving with my parents. We’ve been soaking up the beautiful weather, enjoying walks in the warm sunshine, and taking in the gorgeous sunsets.

My mom and I are doing a little cooking prep today, and a LOT of cooking and baking tomorrow! She and I have been making our Thanksgiving dinner together forever, and we always have so much fun! Gareth and my dad have been sneaking in as much time on the golf course as they can. I think they’re using golf as their warm-up for all the football they’ll be watching starting Thursday . . . and basically ending sometime in January.

Clay arrives tonight from Boston, and I’m sooo ready to have him here with us! When both of our kids went off to college, I used to tell them that when they came home I wanted to just carry them around with me so I could soak up every minute with them. Like literally carry them around . . . I said I wanted a Clay-sized baby Bjorn. No wonder my kids think I’m a nut. But seriously, there is nothing better than spending time with them!

Emily and Joe will be with his family in New York for Thanksgiving. She actually has that day off (not always easy for a nurse), so I’m happy that they’ll get to enjoy time with his parents, three brothers, and what I’m sure will be an incredible feast made by Joe’s mom. We’ll have Em, Joe, and Clay with us for Christmas this year, and I can’t wait!!

Family Games for the Holidays

The best thing about the Holidays is time with with Family and Friends! In our house, we love to get cozy and play games together, and we have a few that have been big hits, brought lots of laughs, and perhaps a bit of cut-throat competition. I thought I’d share our top three favorites. These games are great for young and old!

Farkel is, by far, our favorite! We have so many great memories of huge crowds of family and friends around our dining room table playing this game for hours! We’ve made up cut-throat versions of this that we call Jungle Rules Farkel, and have truly had so much fun. Here’s a link if you want to get it for the holidays:

Rummikub is another really fun one that we’ve played with the kids since they were little. I just discovered that they have made a new version for up to Six Players, so you’d better believe I bought one of these for the whole family to play! Here’s a link:

Emily and Joe brought Telestrations to Christmas a couple of years ago, and it was an instant hit! Remember the ‘telephone game”, where the first player whispers a phrase to their neighbor and the phrase gets whispered around the circle until the final player says it outloud and you see how the phrase has changed? Telestrations is basically the telephone game combined with pictionary. When I say it is hilarious, I’m not exaggerating! When we’ve played with a big group it has been a laugh ’til tears are streaming down faces kind of good time. I highly recommend it!!

Thank you for joining me today, Friends! Wishing you all a Lovely, Cozy, and Delicious Thanksgiving! I’ll see you back here on Monday, December 2nd (what?? next week is December?)!!
