I hope everyone enjoyed a nice, long weekend! I planned to be here earlier this week, but life got in the way . . . I’m sure you can all relate. Anyhow, we had a great visit with our Boulder Besties up here in the mountains! The weather was warm enough to spend time out on our deck, which makes my heart so happy!

And . . . we took one photo for the entire weekend . . . ugh. If anyone has any ideas on how I can be better about taking pics, send them my way!
Anyway, we had a really nice time, lol!
In January, I posted about using topical estrogen face cream. That article contained all of the research I did to make the decision to start using it, including information on safety, systemic absorption, and efficacy. You can read all about it here.
Estrogen plays a vital role in maintaining skin elasticity, thickness, and hydration by supporting collagen production and improving blood flow to the skin. Unlike systemic hormone therapy, topical application of estrogen minimizes overall hormone absorption to deliver targeted skin benefits. In my previous article about this, I wrote that I wish I had started using it in my 40’s, when estrogon levels begin to fluctuate and slowly decline.
My OBGYN prescribed 0.5% Estriol face cream for me through our local compounding pharmacy. The instructions said I could use it once or twice a day. I always tend to be a little conservative when trying a new product on my face, so I decided to begin with using it once a day, in the mornings.
I apply the estriol cream to clean skin and use it with one pump of my hyaluronic acid serum, which is supposed to help with hydration and absorption. I also added a couple of drops of my vitamin C serum. Then I let it hang out on my face and neck and marinate for a few minutes before I apply my sunscreen (every day!) and makeup (on occasion😂).

Here is my “before” photo from November 5th, 2024

And here’s how my skin looked on January 9th. I couldn’t really see a difference in appearance, but my skin felt good, and so I persevered!
After taking that photo, I decided to start using my Estriol face cream twice a day, as directed. At night, after I wash my face, I apply it with a pump of my retinol serum and a pump of an age renewal serum. I let it marinate for a quick moment and top it with a facial oil . . . because it is drier than the Sahara here.
I’ve been feeling good about how my skin feels and looks. When I look in my light-up bathroom mirror, I feel like my skin looks “plumper”. So, it’s time to take another photo. Why is this part so nerve wracking??

I took these this morning, and – ugh, this is so vulnerable . . .
- First, my skin is a bit shiny because I had just put on sunscreen.
- Second, I think it’s just a lighting difference, but my eye bags are killing me. (I’m telling myself it’s a lighting difference, and moving on).
- Third, I do think the “smile lines”, aka – wrinkles around my mouth – are looking a bit better.
Is this a complete transformation, taking years off my face? No.
But, overall, am I happy with my skin as a 56-year-old, former sun worshiper, living in a super dry, high-altitude climate? Yes.
For anyone interested, I’ll share links to my other skincare products that I use in conjunction with my 0.5% Estriol Cream. I’m a big fan of Colleen Rothschild Skincare products. They are quite expensive, but her site often has really good sales, and I find that a little goes a long way, so I typically only need to re-stock twice a year. Elevated Nesting is not affiliated with them . . . maybe someday.

My Overall Review of Estriol Face Cream
By replenishing the skin on our face with estrogen, the goal is to support collagen production, which will improve skin’s moisture and elasticity. Since adding 0.5% Estriol Face Cream to my skincare regimen seven months ago, I am experiencing signs of improvement in the way my skin feels and looks. My skin’s moisture retention has improved, my skin feels “plumper”, and I think I’m seeing a slight visible reduction in fine lines.
Is it the fountain of youth? No. Do I wish I had started it in my 40’s? Yes. Overall, with an understanding of the science behind it and for the reasonable price, I do believe it has been a beneficial addition to my skincare routine.
That’s it for me today, Friends! Thank you for spending a little part of your day here with me.❤️
