Hey there, Wednesday!
We are currently on the third leg of our back-to-back-to-back-to-back travel adventure. Yesterday, I recapped our time in gorgeous Carmel and the event that brought us there… Emily and Gareth running their 3rd annual Spring Half Marathon. They chose Big Sur this year, and thus a fantastic little vacation was born! If you missed yesterday’s post about Carmel & Big Sur, you can find it here.
After our Monday morning hike through Point Lobos (complete with harbor seal pups!! 🦭), we made the two-hour drive up the coast to Half Moon Bay. Having a husband who has been a corporate traveling warrior for the past 30+ years is paying off now. We cashed in some points and stayed at the Ritz Carlton Half Moon Bay, and were even upgraded to a gorgeous, newly overhauled suite complete with our own ocean front patio with a firepit.
This photo sums up how Emily and I spent most or our time. 😊 We took a few nice walks on the coastal trail, Gareth golfed, we ate some yummy food, but mostly . . . we relaxed. It was a great way for my runners to recover, and for me to pretend I had run a half marathon and recover right along with them!
After two lovely days in Half Moon Bay, we packed up, checked out, and drove to San Jose to fly back to Colorado. Emily returned to New York, and Gareth and I picked up Daisy and returned home, where we spent a total of 16 hours . . . unpacking, doing laundry, and re-packing . . . with a little bit of sleep thrown in. We got Daisy all settled in with her wonderful pet sitter, and we were off!
It’s always great to come home, even if it’s just for one night.
On Thursday morning, we woke up to ~ snow. I’ve written before about how winter hangs on tight up in the mountains. In the years since we’ve moved there, most May mornings look like this.
It’s beautiful, yes . . . however . . .
IT 👏🏼 IS 👏🏼 MAY 👏🏼!!
I’m tired of snow and ready for Spring!! With most of our local restaurants and shops closed for mud season, It’s a great time to get away and travel. This year our trips have developed pretty organically. Trip #1 was the half marathon.
Trip #2 was a bittersweet gathering in Colorado Springs for the interment of my Aunt and Uncle’s ashes at Pikes Peak National Cemetery. My Aunt passed away in December, and my Uncle has been gone for many years. It was wonderful to gather with so many cousins, aunts, and uncles to lay this incredible couple to rest, together, in a place that honors military veterans with spectacular views of Pikes Peak.
We had a really nice visit with extended family, and then it was time to jet off with my parents for Trip #3! This leg of our trip has a lot of moving parts and multiple BIG celebrations!
In the next couple of days, I’ll write more about where we are and all of our happenings. In the meantime, I’ll give you some hints:
Bwa-Ha-Ha! Even with the fog, this place makes my heart sing!
